Beyond communication, a stronger foundation for teamwork is ensuring that everyone is in the right role to contribute effectively.
It’s arguably one of the most underestimated and underappreciated leadership skills. It’s also incredibly difficult, as it requires authority, sharp judgment of character, and a keen understanding—yet only a few truly recognize its value. In the industry, we often see companies simply acqui-hire the whole team, recognizing the value of a well-built team.
It’s also incredibly difficult for individuals to learn and accept the right fit for themselves. It involves career challenges, understandings, conflicts, and struggles before being the right fit.
I had struggles, too. Years ago, I didn’t realize that I was probably a better fit for a staff role than for a director position. I didn’t realize I wasn’t a good fit for an academic researcher. It took years of self-exploration.
At the end of the day, we aim to bring A players together to solve tough problems in an increasingly polarized world.
