Escape Taipei Main Station!
Hi frens,
Have you ever got lost in a gigantic train station? Like, new comers could easily get lost for tens of minutes in our Taipei Main Station. With three railways and three underground streets, the station lacks unified and clear directional signs.
The government has tried several solutions, including indoor navigation apps that used preconfigured Bluetooth beacons, but it didn’t gain enough popularity and ceased operation.
One day, two years ago, I was searching for someone lost in the station: Ask them for nearby prominent signs, like a store logo. That made me so much easier to locate where he or she was. I came out with an idea of indoor navigation with prominent signs. And it shall work like this:
The app will ask for your nearby prominent signs. Usually it takes just one or two signs to locate where you are inside Taipei Main Station.
Tell the app where you’re going.
Then the app will navigate the route through several prominent signs for you to look for.
This could be implemented with a simple front-end web app. I called the idea “Escape the Taipei Main Station!” I told some of my friends and they seemed to be like the idea.
To move this little side project forward with more resources, last month I participated in a government-hosted event: Taipei Smart City Youth Political Proposal Competition.
But I did not advance. That was sad. So I had to put this side project aside again.
Do you like the idea of “Escape the Taipei Main Station”, a solution to end the experience of getting lost in the station? Leave your thoughts below and let me know if or how I should bring this idea to life!!
Your friend,
Denken
