Business Trip
Hi frens,
I often wonder why web3 people seem to travel a lot, including attending conferences worldwide.
Firstly, it costs a lot. As an individual, learning from Michael Faraday and Steve Jobs’ early life, I don’t take going abroad as necessary. You could do research or product innovation in your homeland, as long as the resource is available. As a software engineer, most learning resources are available for free online.
Why spend so much money on frequent trips abroad? Does it justify the outcome?
Or did they just make too much money?
Secondly, as an individual, traveling abroad is often very costly. However, organizations can afford to invest in travel, often justifying it as an opportunity to build valuable connections that can lead to future returns.
Now it comes to what “value” it is. Besides some research or engineering, the resource is often controlled by some people. And we often need to meet face-to-face or know each other better to allocate resources, or have a deeper impression and build trust.
Online communication, though improving, is still relatively new. Trust—a crucial element of business—remains difficult to establish without in-person interaction.
Can you quantify trust? No, it's much harder than measuring technical outcomes. So people will continue to take business trips for making connections and creating values based on the capital of their organization.
Your friend,
Denken
